Tokyo Lights

We are proud to announce that Boo’s proposal for the Tokyo City Lights contest ended up in the shortlist of ten. The shortlist was selected from 280 works from 18 countries.
The contest was set-up in order to find a refined and distinctive streetlight design befitting the three major central areas of Tokyo (Ginza, Kyobashi, Nihonbashi) with attractive lighting that will symbolise Chuo Dori in the 21st Century.

EKWC
Bricks

With Rob Bonneur (VVLFB Architects) and Julia Voigtmann, we are at the EKWC in 's-Hertogenbosch this month, working on the Brick project. Brick is a project, in which architects, designers and visual artists from The Netherlands and abroad have been asked to develop a new type of brick or come up with a new use for existing bricks. This project will culminate in an exhibition, which, on the one hand, will demonstrate a multi-disciplinary approach to architectural product innovation and on the other, will make architecture tangible in a challenging, innovative way for a broader audience than simply one made up of professionals. The exhibition, which is planned for 2007, will be accompanied by a publication of the results of the Brick project. Why brick? Brick has been around for thousands of years and is still relevant today. Brick has always been the most obvious building material in use in the Netherlands. Not only is brick a high quality product, but the choice of colours, shapes and textures also inspire architects time and again. Now that the facade no longer has a structural supporting function, but is simply the skin of the building, brick can shake off its rectangular nature. And that is where the challenge lies... Could the new brick be round, hexagonal, perforated or transparent? The brick project is sponsored by Wieneberger.
