Brick - the exhibition

On May 24th 2007, the exhibition "Brick" will open at the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam during the manifestation Rotterdam 2007, City of Architecture. The exhibition will highlight the results of the Brick project that was carried out over a three-year period at the European Ceramic Work Centre.
The architecture project Brick was aimed at product innovation. The .ekwc wanted to stimulate the technical and artistic development of the manufacturing and application of brick as a construction material. Architects, designers and artists from both the Netherlands and abroad have been working on the development of a new type of brick since 2005. The .ekwc expects to be able to use this to provide a new stimulus to the application of brick and subsequently the brick appearance of the Netherlands.
The exhibition does not consist of a showroom full of products, but is a special designed presentation of both true works of art inspired by brick and new, commercial designs suitable for further development by the brick industry. A rich, multidisciplinary exhibition based on the experiments the participants entered into with ceramics as a material.

Help Kenya

For two years now, my daughter’s school , the Wolfert van Borselen Bilingual School in Rotterdam, has supported Oloilalei, a village in Kenya. This community is struck by drought and a group of students and teachers of the Wolfert has raised money for a well, a mill and a school.
At the end of this summer the school will send a delegation of students to Kenya to help the villagers where they can. Amongst who: my daughter, Sammie. To send the students to Kenya we need your help. Support this project and donate for travel and stay for these students at my daughters ( S. Oostrum) account:

Urban Design / Young Urban

BOO will present its design proposals for slowing down traffic in urban areas at the Urban Design Fair 2007. After our successful project in Schijndel we are looking for other projects to increase road safety. The concept of our design is based on the idea that people reduce their speed when they are exposed to visual stimulus. This resulted in a number of graphic designs for both brick and asphalt surfaces. 24-26 april 2007
