Baffin sky

baarsjes

The Baffinstraat in the Baarsjes in Amsterdam is named after the famous
explorer William Baffin. Round 1615 he sailed along the
coast of the current Canada trying to find a passing to the East. William Baffin was the first explorer who used astronomic observations to navigate. This fact inspired MNO to create a starry sky for Baffinstreet's road surface.

The boo project for Schijndel is completed.

Boo has designed a contemporary city gate for Schijndel, a small town in the Netherlands. The gate marks the entrance to the town centre where you are only allowed to drive 30 kilometers per hour and contains the numbers 5482, which is the postcode for this part of Schijndel. The gate functions as a landmark and a way of reducing the speed of the passing traffic.
If you are ever in Schijndel, check out the crossing: Wijbosscheweg -v. Berghenstraat- Hoevebraaksestraat.

Bright Lights, Big City

Tokyo Lights

We are proud to announce that Boo’s proposal for the Tokyo City Lights contest ended up in the shortlist of ten. The shortlist was selected from 280 works from 18 countries. Unfortunately we didn’t win the contest.
The contest was set-up in order to find a refined and distinctive streetlight design befitting the three major central areas of Tokyo (Ginza, Kyobashi, Nihonbashi) with attractive lighting that will symbolise Chuo Dori in the 21st Century.

Siependaal

Tile paintings

A form consisting of three merging balls is the modular element used to create the tile paintings for the psychiatric hospital Siependaal. With this simple form several patterns can be made from regular structures, to random patterns.
From a large field of randomly placed forms, numerous different tile paintings have been generated. This way each bathroom gets its unique tile painting.
The three floors of the hospital each got there own colour settings. This work elaborates on traditional pattern design but with a contemporary vocabulary.

H2O

VSB prijs beeldende kunst 1997

H2O is the winning design of the VSB award 1997 for swimming pool "de Kulk" in Vlaardingen, Holland.
It consists of oversized molecules made of ceramics with a platinum luster.

Juryrapport:
"Droom en daad zij echter het meest aan elkaar gewaagd in het lichtontwerp van Ben Oostrum. Hij maakte een sensuele sculptuur van watermoleculen, die sterk lijken op zeepbellen of druppels condens. Het zilverglanzende beeld straalt niet alleen licht uit, het weerkaatst ook alle schitteringen van golfslag en spetterpret."

WOW MOM

WOW MOM

It was clear the passage to the car park behind the Gedempte Biersloot in Vlaardingen needed light. It was a dark and nasty hole in a block of flats.
With neon the palindrome WOW MOM was created. Not just a palindrome because this cryptic text reads up side down WOW MOM too.
