No Windmills,
Cheese or Tulips
The classical
still life, redesigned with contemporary design from
The Netherlands
During DesignTide
Tokyo 2007, held in Japan from 31 October - 4 November,
19 designers from Eindhoven, Amsterdam and Rotterdam
will be presenting work that illustrates the strength
of Dutch design. The exhibition 'No Windmills, Cheese
or Tulips' will be presented as a still life, like
those familiar to us from the 'old masters', putting
contemporary design from the Netherlands on display
in a classically Dutch way.
The objects are presented as a still life, like those
of the 17th century masters : an artistic composition
of objects. In 'No Windmills, Cheese or Tulips' the
different shapes, colours and textures have been arranged
and illuminated to resemble a modern-day 'best room';
a three-dimensional painting of Dutch design at a
high standard of quality.
As of now the NWCoT website is online: http://www.NWCOT.nl.
'No Windmills,
Cheese or Tulips' is part of NL4 Design, a programme
of activities initiated by the municipalities of Eindhoven,
Amsterdam, Rotterdam, the BNO (the Association of
Dutch Designers) and Premsela (the Dutch platform
for design and fashion) to create an international
profile for Dutch design. In answer to this, Margo
Konings and Maarten Baptist developed the concept
for 'No Windmills, Cheese or Tulips'

Brick - the exhibition
On May 24th 2007, the exhibition
"Brick" will open at the Groot Handelsgebouw
in Rotterdam during the manifestation Rotterdam 2007,
City of Architecture. The exhibition will highlight
the results of the Brick project that was carried
out over a three-year period at the European Ceramic
Work Centre.
The architecture project Brick was aimed at product
innovation. The .ekwc wanted to stimulate the technical
and artistic development of the manufacturing and
application of brick as a construction material. Architects,
designers and artists from both the Netherlands and
abroad have been working on the development of a new
type of brick since 2005. The .ekwc expects to be
able to use this to provide a new stimulus to the
application of brick and subsequently the brick appearance
of the Netherlands.
The exhibition does not consist of a showroom full
of products, but is a special designed presentation
of both true works of art inspired by brick and new,
commercial designs suitable for further development
by the brick industry. A rich, multidisciplinary exhibition
based on the experiments the participants entered
into with ceramics as a material.
